2018 WAS AN EXCELLENT YEAR FOR OUR VINEYARD.

TRILO-VITES 2018

25€

TRILO-VITES is a red wine from PAGO DE LA BOTICARIA ©, originating from our vineyards called Valdespinar, Moncayo, Boticaria, SicilIa ....
The wine is elaborated by spontaneous fermentation and the wine processes are carried out by native existent yeasts both in the vines and in the soils. 16 months in American and European oak barrels make up a wine with personality; an explosion of authentic aromas and flavours.

More about our vineyards

They are old vines of grenaches and some provechones (bobal) located in the counties of Daroca and Calatayud, Aragón region, Spain, (circa 41 ° 10 'N and 1 ° 30' W), at 850 to 900 m altitude, in the highlands of the depression of the Jiloca river. They settle on Cambrian lands composed of sandstones, slate pebbles, and multiple minerals "which should not be there", strongly altered by geodynamics. The agricultural work is traditional; the vines are hand- pruned and harvested. No pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used.

Tasting evaluation

Appearance: cherry red colour with violet notes on the border, high intensity layer.

Aroma: dynamic, aromatic and intriguing. Light notes of wood to which the intensity of the grape is superimposed with notes of ripe fruit and strawberry. Pleasant and complex aroma.

Taste: well balanced, dynamic, long and delicious finish. Very good acidity, very tasty from the beginning to the end of the passage through the mouth. It incorporates slightly the flavor of the very old slates with a predominance of an excellent fruit flavor. Soft and round tannins. The wine strikes the perfect balance between aging, great complexity of aromas and flavours that stem from the old vines of grenache ink. It is recommended to decant or open it half an hour before serving it at 18 ° so that it reaches its full splendor.

Why named TRILO-VITES?

More than 500 million years ago, during the Cambrian period, the seas covered the northern hemisphere; beyond latitude 30 ° N, everything was seawater. It is the Palaeozoic era; the great explosion of forms of life takes place.

The first multicellular animals reign on the planet, among them, certain animals of rustic and sympathetic appearance; trilobites, named for their peculiar three thighs. Arthropods that walk with articulated legs along the sea beds and have eyes, they can see! Many millions of years later, lands emerged from the sea and trilobites became extinct, fossilized under thousands of meters of sediment. Their eyes could not see our wonderful vineyards.

Yet, only a few million years ago, a strong orogenic movement, a displacement caused by a meteorite that impacted about 40 km to the NE of our vineyards unleashing an enormous "push". As a result, the Cambrian lands emerged above the tertiary lands and the trilobites, buried for hundreds of millions of years, returned to the surface.

The roots of our vines sink into more than 500 million years old lands surrounded by fossils of those trilobites which come back to life in those vines contemplated by their old eyes.

This unique and strong link emerged between the trilobites (“trilo”) and the vine (“vites” in Latin) merges into our wine TRILO-VITES, which contains traces of life on Earth more than 500 million years ago. The climate of the region is continental, with Mediterranean influence and an average 340 L / year, which influences fresh and self-regulated vines. Every detail of cultivation has been taken care of, respecting the traditional methods and the old plants of low production, without using pesticides or altering natural dynamics.

The result is a singular wine.
