2018 WAS AN EXCELLENT YEAR FOR OUR VINEYARD
Red wine originating from our old garnacha and some provechon vineyards (Valdespinar, Moncayo, Boticaria...).
In September and October the daytime temperature did not exceed 30 degrees Celsius, nor did the nighttime temperature dropped below 10 degrees Celsius. The result was a perfect acidity and pH at the time of the harvest.
The harvest began on October 18, performed by hand and in boxes, using grapes from the old vineyards of Sicilia and La Dehesa (Pago de la Boticaria) to make this wine.

MAGNIFICENT VINEYARDS FOR AN EXTRAORDINARY WINE
The year 2018-2019 has been a very difficult year for our garnacha vineyards due to the weather conditions. Heavy rains in the fall of 2018, almost twice than usual, a very cold and dry winter followed by a rainy April, the summer was somewhat more humid in July and very hot in August and September.
The wine is made with grapes from the vineyards of Sicilia and La Dehesa (Pago de la Boticaria and Valdespinar). As of September 20, the maturation of the seeds progressed very slowly and due to the dehydration of the berry and the increase of the skin / pulp ratio, optimal levels of IPT were achieved. All this, together with the age of the strains and their excellent self-regulation, have made our vineyards reach very good values that have led to highly concentrated and promising broths.
The 2019 harvest will be marketed in the fall of 2021, and we hope that by then we can toast all together.
A WINE FOR LAYING DOWN
The basic analysis of the must is very similar in all the treatments of this vintage: high sugar level, good acidity and perfect pH. It can be seen that the polyphenolic maturation in all cases is excellent. The content of IPT, extractable and total anthocyanins are very suitable for the elaboration of a wine for laying down.
The rains in April, May and June of 2020 tripled the usual ones and were followed by an extreme drought starting in July, giving rise to storms of little precipitation and brief but very intense hailstorms that fell very close, touching one of our vineyards.
This time San Ramón and Santa Bárbara agreed, since the tradition of the town of Atea tells that the only year that they changed the pilgrimage from the hermitage of Santa Bárbara to San Ramón, the sky opened and the storm was terrible. Our vineyard came out unscathed, some vineyard with minor injuries.
The grapes did a fantastic veraison. Very high levels of sugars have been obtained, common in our garnachas. In October, with the arrival of rains, which were not torrential, an excellent and great harvest was completed, which is possibly going to be one of the best of the century, something good had to bring this dramatic year.
Quality on all 4 sides
Quality of the Environment: In addition to the height above sea level (between 800 and 1,000 m), clea air, low rainfall and continental climate with Mediterranean nuances in the regions of Calatayud and Campo de Daroca. The land preserves its biodynamic potential almost intact and the uniqueness that a good part of the vineyards are situated on lands that are more than 500 million years old because of a rare Cambrian thrust. Few grapes in the world feed on the remains of trilobites and other such ancient beings.
Quality of the grapes: Definitely the garnacha grape is the center of our effort. A grape that was long despised, as with any entity with its own personality. Few grapes are more adaptive to the extreme environment, and have characteristics more accentuated of color and variety of aromas and flavors.
Processing quality: We are making the wine with our own grapes, by entirely natural processes based on the highest quality of the grapes, which means that the wine does not need artificial additions in its production. Always with spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts.
